How to prepare for Yoga Nidra:

PLEASE be sure to sign on early enough to get settled before the practice. I will be online at 2:45 pm. We will begin promptly at 3:00 pm.

PROPS YOU WILL NEED:

  • A chair with no arms, or your ottoman, couch, or coffee table with a blanket draped over OR

  • Large round bolster or firm cushions from your couch (to support your legs)

  • A couple of thick towels or blankets that can be folded and used to support under your knees or arms

  • Blankets or a wrap if you tend to get cold

  • An eye pillow (optional)

If they aren’t joining you, let your family members and roommates know that you will be in practice for about an hour, and would appreciate the gift of silence and stillness. A “DO NOT DISTURB” sign on your door is always helpful!

If possible, try not to have anything scheduled immediately after our class. Create some space and time after our practice to allow the benefits to linger as well as integrate. Rushing off after savasana can be jarring to your nervous system, undoing the effects of your practice.

Be sure to find a clear, quiet space for your practice. On a carpet, or a couple of thick blankets on the floor is ideal. Bring extra blankets or layers for yourself if you tend to get cold.

If you're using a chair, couch, or ottoman for your leg support, make sure that the backs of your knees rest against the edge of the seat, and that your heels are supported. Please watch the alignment of your legs, so they don't splay out to the sides, but remain aligned with your hip bones. All of this is important in feeling grounded and settled.

Also, please pay attention to the angle of your thigh bones - they should not be perpendicular to the floor but should be at an angle with the knees away from your hips. This angle will give a sweet release to your lower back, sacrum, and tailbone. Refer to the photo.

Be sure to "pad" any pressure points - low back, sacrum, etc. Use additional blankets or gel pads. Unlike in other Yoga Nidras, you can shift or change your position at any time in the practice.

**If you're new to this setup, please check it out prior to our class so you can make it comfortable and easy for you to set up and enter when we begin Yoga Nidra. If you have any questions beforehand, sign on about 15 minutes before class and I’ll be online to help.

I'm very honored to share this practice with you.
